Discover the historic

Hatch Mill

The Hatch Mill is one of a few remaining examples of an intact water-powered industrial property in Massachusetts

It is on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Hatch Homestead and Mill Historic District, which includes the famed Red House*. In 2004 it was on the verge of collapse when it was saved by a dedicated group of Marshfield residents.

Please see our updated (2023) History and Preservation pages.

Our mission is to open the mill as a museum featuring the working water-powered sawmill, box mill and other mechanical infrastructure

The mill welcomes visitors on pre-scheduled tours and during open houses. Would you like a tour? Email us!

*The story of the Red House is chronicled in a book by Sarah Messer titled, “The Red House: Being a Mostly Accurate Account of New England’s Oldest Continuously Lived-in House.” It is still owned and lived in today by the Messer Family.

The Hatch Mill relies on community support to achieve its mission of restoring this historic mill.  We would like to thank the following generous donors for their recent gifts.  Their support is greatly appreciated.
